Breaking barriers is about creating opportunities for everyone to lead, regardless of background or circumstance.
This section is dedicated to providing resources, support, and guidance for women and minorities striving for leadership roles in education. Whether it’s stepping up to the plate for the first time or advancing to new heights, we’re here to empower and uplift diverse voices in school leadership. Together, we’re shaping a more inclusive and equitable future for education.
Breaking Barriers
Women Leading Ed is a national network dedicated to advancing women in educational leadership roles, particularly focusing on increasing the representation of women, especially women of color, in positions such as district superintendents.
Despite women comprising 76% of the teaching workforce, they represent less than 30% of district superintendents, often earning less than their male counterparts.
For principals and assistant principals to share challenges and opportunities of the profession faced by women, and support each other personally and professionally.
The purpose of WELV is to
bring together leaders to address issues related primarily to the
accomplishments, advancement, concerns, interests, and special contributions of
women in or aspiring to educational leadership.
